Well, I'm pretty much done with the conversion. It's been a lot of work, but well worth it I think! I still have to finish up a few things... I need to do something with the rear brake reservoir as it's just hanging right now, and with the coolant bottle since the one in the pics below sprung a leak. I obviously also have to paint the new parts too.

So now you want to know how I did it, eh? I've broken it down into two sections:

  • For the YZF tank here
  • For the R6 tail here

I'm missing a few pictures in the tail section that I'll hopefully be able to get later this winter when I take it all apart to paint the frame and plastic. In the mean time, please don't hesitate to email me with any questions, but please realize I'm generally really busy, and it will probably take me a bit to get to you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I've been getting a bunch of emails asking the same questions, so here are a few answers to some frequently asked questions.

  • The tank cost me $130 on eBay... however due to the nature of eBay, yours could be more or less
  • The tail, underfender, and rear brake light cost me about $120
  • The rear hugger is by AirTech, whose glass work is a toss up, and it cost me $150 on eBay
  • The hugger is not available by itself, as AirTech seems to not want to sell it without the full R1 kit
  • The tank is off a YZF 600, not an R6 - very important as the R6 tank will not fit
  • The seats cost me $100 on eBay, including the lock set
  • Yes, you can do the tail conversion without doing the tank
  • If you don't want to cut up your airbox, get the pod filters and a stage 3 jet kit, but really, you'll probably get better overall performance by cutting up the airbox
